Minujinda Labyrinth

A labyrinth of sensations, quests, puzzles, energy, challenges, and technology at the museum Centro Cultural de Buenos Aires created by the Guggenheim awarded artist Marta Minujin, and 6 of us, the designers team. The whole route comprised of 6 x 35 meters corridors, 1×40 meters, 2×15 meters and a square 25×25 meters. Every 2-4 meters the experience changed using giant “vagina” dividers and sensors to activate the experiences of each room.

Osvaldo Giesso about Marta Minujin and the project
Building the Water Cube
Building of one of the walls for the “water cube”. When you got in the sensor activated a series of pumps. Red water filled the walls, then blue water, then the red emptied and finally the blue. Coloured bubbles spread through the floor and ceiling. The whole cube shake with the powerful pumps under the cube. Lights from outside the room changed the mood. Suddenly the system went completely quiet and a recoded voice invited you to continue your way.
Textures and Fragrances room
The textures and fragrances room challenge the visitor to go through lots of different materials with textures going from soft, sticky, hard, slippery, etc. While you advance through that challenging ambient a series of sensors detected your position sending jets of diverse aromas.
The bowel room
The bowel was a curvy path made with a very soft and sticky foam. It was very difficult to walk over a layer more than a meter thick of that so soft and uneven material. The path was enhanced with digestive sounds.
The Bed Room
Suddenly the path ended. High at the end wall there was an horizontal rubber rectangle. No way back. Inspecting the rectangle the visitor could see a slit on the rubber. Forcing yourself through the only possible opening you find that now you are in a bed with a couple watching TV. With a very low ceiling there is no other way but to advance going over them.
The beauty room
Diverse strange character were found all over the labyrinth. Inside the head of the Venus a make up artist painted some lines on your face. When you advanced to the next room the floor activated a recording with a crowd clapping at you.
The nails corridor
It took a good deal of courage to get through a forced perspective tunnel made with 6 tons of very sharp nails.
The vanity tunnel
Floor, walls and ceiling covered with tv sets showed diverse edits of you taken with many cameras in diverse positions.
The gut tunnel
After the gut a wind tunnel would blow from the bottom using four industrial turbines. The hollow transparent plastic walls were full of swirled letters and numbers flying all over the area.

A dark room filled with smoke showed many laser lines crossing from side to side. Each one would trigger a musical scale made by the museum sound lab. Your dance interrupting the beams created a unique musical piece.
